“Jomon, distant Japanese ancestors”
Neolithic era. Indigenous people known as the Jomon people once lived in the Japanese archipelago. The Jomon people had built and enjoyed a peaceful and sustainable society for more than 10,000 years. The era in which they lived is called the Jomon period.
“In song and dance”
The people of Iwate have a custom of performing arts in which they pray to the gods and Buddha and spirits while performing songs and dances. These performing arts are often performed at traditional festivals and ceremonies and are performed to pray for various things such as; a good harvest, a memorial service for ancestors, the expulsion of evil spirits, and wishing for the peace of the hometown and family.
“Mountains”
Most of the land in Iwate is occupied by mountains, and specifically there are two large mountain ranges along either side of the large river that runs through the center of Iwate.
